OrKIDstra!

A MAGICAL, MUSICAL ADVENTURE
JANUARY 30, 2026
FREE FAMILY CONCERT FEATURING DR. JORGE GONZÁLEZ, GUEST CONDUCTOR
WITH SPECIAL GUEST HUNTSVILLE MET

Step right up for a magical adventure! Join us for a joyful journey through the symphony with The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra by Benjamin Britten—brought to life with a whimsical puppet performance by the imaginative artists of Huntsville MET

In collaboration with Arts & Letters and the Meridian Community College Division of Fine Arts, OrKIDstra! is a vibrant, immersive experience designed to delight kids and adults alike. Come early or stay late for a festive music faire one hour before and after the performance, featuring special appearances by Stage 2 princesses and friendly volunteers from MCC’s Fine Arts program.

Guest Conductor Dr. Jorge Iván González is a violinist, conductor, and Professor of Music at William Carey University, where he directs the university orchestra. He serves as Artistic Director of the Hattiesburg Orchestral and Chamber Music Academy and works extensively with youth orchestras across the region. An accomplished performer and collaborator, Dr. González brings both musical excellence and a passion for music education to the podium.

As we celebrate 65 years of the Meridian Symphony, this family-friendly concert invites kids (and kids at heart) to explore the colorful world of instruments, meet each orchestra section, and discover the magic of music-making. Expect toe-tapping tunes, silly surprises, and a musical adventure where imagination leads the way!
