A MAGICAL, MUSICAL ADVENTURE
JANUARY 30, 2026
FREE FAMILY CONCERT FEATURING DR. JORGE GONZÁLEZ, GUEST CONDUCTOR
WITH SPECIAL GUEST HUNTSVILLE MET
Step right up for a magical adventure! Join us for a joyful journey through the symphony with The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra by Benjamin Britten—brought to life with a whimsical puppet performance by the multi-talented artists of Huntsville MET. Come early or stick around for a music faire one hour before and after the show.
Guest Conductor Dr. Jorge Iván González is a violinist, conductor, and Professor of Music at William Carey University, where he also directs the William Carey University Orchestra. He serves as Artistic Director of the Hattiesburg Orchestral and Chamber Music Academy and leads both the Hattiesburg Youth Orchestra and Academy Symphony Orchestra. A past winner of multiple competitions, Dr. González has performed internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, and toured with the GRAMMY-nominated Conspirare Ensemble.
He has collaborated with renowned artists such as Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, and Joshua Bell, and has guest conducted orchestras across the U.S. and Latin America. Dr. González is Concertmaster of the Gulf Coast Symphony, Assistant Concertmaster of the Mobile Symphony, Principal Second Violin and Personnel Manager of the Meridian Symphony, and conductor for the Hattiesburg Public School District string program.
As we celebrate 65 years of the Meridian Symphony, this family-friendly concert invites kids (and kids at heart) to explore the colorful world of instruments, meet each section of the orchestra, and discover the magic of music-making. Expect toe-tapping tunes, silly surprises, and a musical adventure where imagination leads the way!
