Cellobration!

BACH, BOHEMIA, & A BIT OF JAZZ
SEPTEMBER 18, 2025
OPENING NIGHT AT THE MAX FEATURING DR. PETER RUBARDT, CONDUCTOR
MARK KOSOWER, CELLO

What better way to celebrate 65 years of symphonic joy than with a Cellobration!? Our 65th Anniversary Season opens with the spotlight on the cello, with a bold blend of sound and spirit. “Bach, Bohemia, & a Bit of Jazz” showcases the expressive power of the cello—solo, soulful, and swinging—a vibrant night of storytelling.

You’ll hear J.S. Bach’s iconic solo cello—pure and introspective—followed by Dvořák’s warm and spirited “Serenade for Winds,” and concluding with Friedrich Gulda’s wildly entertaining “Cello Concerto,” where classical meets jazz, rock, and the unexpected.

Mark Kosower has served as Principal Cello of The Cleveland Orchestra since 2010 and is internationally recognized as a powerful soloist, chamber musician, and recording artist. Previously solo cellist of the Bamberg Symphony, he has performed with major orchestras around the world including the Detroit, Houston, Hong Kong, and Rotterdam Philharmonics, and appears regularly at renowned festivals such as Santa Fe and Seattle. His discography includes acclaimed recordings for Naxos, Delos, and VAI, featuring works by Ginastera, Hungarian composers, and more.

Performed at the Mississippi Arts & Entertainment Experience (the MAX), this one-of-a-kind concert blends elegance, energy, and a few surprises, kicking off a season that honors our past and dares to dream into our future. Let the Cellobration begin!
